Post-Operative Instructions : LARYNGEAL SURGERY
There is usually minimal pain or discomfort from this type of surgery. Hoarseness, irritating cough or a sore throat can be expected. This gradually improves over a few days.
Voice rest is important for the first 24 hours. After this, a moderate speaking voice is recommended. Avoid vocal strain and especially do not whisper after surgery as this causes vocal strain.
Tylenol can be taken for pain. If you have had a biopsy a pain medication may be given at your pre operative visit. Do not take asprin or motrin (advil) for the first 5 days after surgery.
There are no sutures or bandages to remove.
Coughing small amounts of blood may occur.
Call the office during office hours for routine questions and medication refills. Call at any time for problems such as difficulty breathing or swallowing, excessive pain or bleeding.
If a biopsy was done, the final report is usually not available until two full days after surgery. Please call the office for the results if we have not contacted you by then.
A follow-up appointment needs to be scheduled for one to two weeks after surgery. You may contact our office during normal business hours to make this appointment.
